What Is Dead End Motel?

Dead End Motel is a suspenseful motel management game built for the browser. The idea is simple at first: you are running a motel during a night shift. Guests arrive, problems appear, pressure rises, and you have to decide what to do before the night gets out of control.

If you are curious how hotel management games work in general—and why people like the genre—there is a longer overview on the blog that also explains where Dead End Motel fits in.

The game is not only about money or upgrades. It is also about risk. A guest might look normal, but their behavior can create problems later. An incident might start small, but if you wait too long, it can become more dangerous. That is the main feeling I want the game to have: you are always managing something, but you are never fully comfortable.

The main loop

The player checks guests, watches alerts, reviews incidents, responds to pressure, and tries to finish the night with the motel still under control. Some choices protect the motel. Some choices cost money. Some choices lower reputation. Some choices only buy time.

Right now, Dead End Motel is still in development, but the goal is to turn it into a stronger indie browser game with more systems, better atmosphere, more guest types, and a reason to replay different nights.

Why build it as a browser game?

A browser game is easy to share. Someone can open a link and play without installing anything. That makes it perfect for testing updates, collecting feedback, and slowly building a real audience around the game.

For the playable build timeline, see prototype status on the homepage.
